Sub-titled: A Training Manual fo Successful Show Jumping at All Levels

Packed with 200 colour photos (most specially taken and including many sequences) and 70 line drawings, this book provides detailed training advice for horse and rider, whether starting from scratch or wishing to compete at higher levels.

Ernest Dillon offers guidance on choosing the right horse, working on the lunge, flatwork schooling and early jumping, and the importance of the rider's position. The core of the book then deals with jumping training, introducing horse and rider to simple polework and later, gymnastic grids, how to approach different types of fence, and how to overcome the common problems that arise in training. More advanced work follows, with combinations and related distances, increasing height and width, and jumping whole courses. In a section devoted to competing, Ernest Dillon explains how to develop the right attitude to competition riding and how to cope with success and failure. There are tips on walking the course and collecting-ring technique, and how to succeed in a jump-off.

Ernest Dillon is a Fellow of the British Horse Society and a highly respected show-jumping trainer. He is Chairman of the British Horse Society Training Advisory Group, has been heavily involved with training the British Show Jumping Junior, Under 18, and Young Rider international squads, and is a visiting instructor to many countries including the USA. He coaches show jumpers and event riders at all levels, and has competed in all three major disciplines at a high level.

Helen Revington is a well-known journalist and equestrian photographer. Her work has appeared in most of the leading equestrian magazines in the UK.
