|Steam Locomotives of the Sugar Plantation Railways of Eastern Cuba.
Cuba is one of the handful of countries worldwide still using steam commercially at the end of the 1990s, albeit for only around four months of the year during the annual sugar cane harvest.
In this, the third in a series of programmes covering 1999, six mills in the east of Cuba are visited as follows:
Orlando Gonzales Ramirez
The programme covers steam in action in the mill yards and from the lineside at these standard gauge and narrow gauge locations.
Types of locomotives seen range from an immaculate standard gauge 4-6-0 at Ramirez Mill to narrow gauge 2-8-0s at Rafael Freyre.
Running time: 57 min.
