|Another excellent programme from cameraman Graham Whistler, this time supplemented by the work of Gordon Rushton. The Festiniog Railway was originally worked partly by horse haulage and partly by gravity, but was an early pioneer of narrow gauge steam locomotives. Today we can still enjoy steam haulage on the line thanks to the hard work of preservation pioneers in the 1950s.
The line has the oldest and newest two-foot (approximately) gauge steam locomotives, including some double-ended examples built on the Fairlie articulated principal. Examples of the line's 170 year steam locomotive history are shown in action amongst Snowdonia's magnificent scenery.
