Featuring the famous themes 'Coronation Scot' (Vivian Ellis) and 'Rhythm on the Rails' (Charles Williams). During the 1930s the LMS produced a series of publicity films for the silent cinema screen.
The material within these reels appeared in various forms over the years but Passenger Trains of the LMS was considered to bring the main bulk of interesting shots together in one overall programme. Railfilms have added sound to this version which demonstrates mainline, rural, and suburban services and conveys the all important picture of both a powerful and efficient operation.
Also features: USA tour of the 'Coronation Scot'. In 1939 the LMS shipped a complete Coronation Scot to the USA to attend the New York World Fair of that year. Once fitted with bell and headlight, 6229 Duchess of Hamilton in full streamlined livery and posing as 6220 Coronation Scot, was loaded aboard the SS Belpamela at Southampton.
Complete with matching train 6229, disguised as 6220 then toured the USA from March 21st to April 14th 1939. This film, to which sound has been added, captures the spirit of this prestigious LMS publicity event.
