The closest city to this track is Nagoya, being
40 miles north-east of the circuit. It is hard to win, especially the race in 1994. It has
been even harder to win after the chicane was tightened in 1991.
The first Grand Prix held here was in 1987
when Gerhard Berger won. Before that, the Japanese Grand Prix was held on the slopes of
Mount Fuji. The Japanese Grand Prix then returned to the Grand Prix calendar after a short
spell when the Grand Prix of Japan did not take place.
