There have been some classic races here. Over a very short period this circuit has become famous, mainly for the race in 1998 when David Coulthard controversially moved over to let Mika Hakkinen with because of a pre-race bet between them. 

The Australian Grand Prix was not always held at Melbourne. It used to be held in Adelaide when it was always the last race of the season. Now, at Melbourne, it is the first.
