This book describes how British cars and drivers always played an important role in the Alpine.

It tells how Jaguar established its sporting reputation through the Alpine Rallies and charts how the Alpine Trials spread from Austria to Italy, Switzerland, France, Germany All the winners of Alpine Cups through six decades are listed and there is a description of the French Alpine's itinerary.

The predecessor of today's international rally sport. The Alpine Rallies of 1910 onwards were an incredible test of endurance for early pioneers and their cars. Becoming ever more international, the event would continue in various forms until 1973.This book, written by a seven time Alpine Rally competitor is an in depth history of this incredibly demanding event. Illustrated with unique photographs and images of rally medals and trophies this is an excellent book for the rallying enthusiast.

There was nothing like the early Alpine Trials of 1910 to 1914 in Austria to test the motor car to it's limits, as Rolls-Royce discovered in 1913. For those dare-devils who flirted with death, taking their fragile motors over mule tracks with totally unprotected edges, the Alpine was the ultimate challenge.

In the inter-war years Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Austria joined forces to create a truly International Alpine covering all the major mountain passes in Europe. They were soon joined by France - and by Great Britain which provided the bulk of the entries. The French Alpine Rally in the fifties continued in this manner and was the toughest rally of them all.

Written by a seven time Alpine Rally competitor and featuring rare photographs this book charts the full history of this illustrious motor sport event. This title is a must have for enthusiasts and historians alike.
