This track may be one of the most famous tracks
in the world, but it also claimed the lives of two brilliant drivers in 1994. The first had
only raced in one Grand Prix. His name was Roland Ratzenberger. He died of a broken neck
after the front wing of his car fell off and his Simtek hit the concrete retaining barrier.
The other driver to die here in 1994 was Ayrton Senna. Senna died from head injuries when
the right front wishbone of his Williams pierced his helmet, giving him a fatal head wound.
Apart from those accidents, Imola is a
brilliant track with challenging turns and straights. It is also tough on fuel mileage which
was vital in the turbo era.
