The Savill and Valley Gardens and the gardens at Frogmore and the Royal Lodge, in Windsor Great Park are all featured in Charles Lyte's comprehensive book, which is illustrated in colour throughout with photographs by Tim Sandall.
Set within the 4,500 acres of Windsor Great Park, the Savill and Valley Gardens were largely the creation of Sir Eric Savill, with the active encouragement of George VI and Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. In 1947 Eric Savill began to develop the area of the Valley Gardens into the wonderful landscape we know today; and in 1995 Queen Elizabeth II inaugurated the latest addition to the Savill Garden, the new Temperate House.
In The Royal Gardens in Windsor Great Park, Charles Lyte traces their histories and takes us through the gardens, season by season, with specially commissioned full colour photography throughout.
Charles Lyte is a full-time garden writer, journalist and author of biographies of Sir Joseph Banks and Frank Kingdon-Ward, the lives of great plant hunters in The Plant Hunters, as well as two anecdotal histories of The Kitchen Garden and The Herb Garden.
The photographer Tim Sandall is commissioned by all the major gardening magazines.
