RAF Burtonwood - 50 Years In Photographs

£12.00

Stock type:  -
Stock reference:  25.002

RAF Burtonwood played a significant role in World War 2, processing over 11500 aircraft between 1943 and 1945. Furthermore, it was responsible for the support of the 8th, 9th, 12th and 15th Air Force, and over 18500 men at the base itself.

After the war major redevelopment work took place, including the extension of the runway to 9000ft, one of the longest in the UK.The base has changed hands several times in its history, passing between RAF and USAF control.. At the present time it is under the US Army control, but only a fraction of the original site is now occupied. Much has been demolished, and the main runway now forms the base of the M62 motorway.
